No More Nuts

Today Jacob has given us the fright of our lives. He helped himself to some Girl Scout cookies that have peanut butter in them, which in turn Andrew had helped himself to and had left on the breakfast table. About 10 minutes later, his face started to swell and he started getting hives on his face as well. I called our pediatricians out of hours number, because of course being one of my kids, he couldn't possibly have done it during normal office hours!! The nurse called me back and told me to give him Benadryl, I had to run up to the store to get some, but by the time I got back he was much worse, and when I tried to give him the Benadryl he had a hard time swallowing it. A mad dash later and we were at an out of hours office. Poor Jacob was very unhappy and his eyes were almost completely swollen shut. They gave him a shot of adrenalin and a dose of steroids. Just a few minutes later he was already much better and desperate to get on the floor and crawl around.

Now that we are home he looks even better and has been trying to steal my IPad from Andrew. Tomorrow we start the nut clear out .

Better news is that Jacob has graduated to a big boy car seat! He loves being able to look around and see more that just the roof of the car. We are going to have to lean it back a bit more as every time he falls asleep in it, he leans forward and is folded in half!

Poor baby! And poor mom, that would have scared me to death! So glad he is feeling better.

Now that he is safe and recovered (thanks to quick action of his mum) Jacob has achieved some sort of status in being the first person I know of in our family to have a severe allergy - a questionable claim to fame! Were they the girl scout cookies dad and I ordered while there!!
